Information about the Recreation Department

The Recreation Department, headed by Recreation Director Colleen Dominick, provides organized recreational activities for all residents. Details of programs are published in the Park News and the schools distribute flyers at the appropriate times.

Recreation Basketball Program

The South Park Township Recreation Board is sponsoring a basketball program again this year for boys (grades 3-4 & 5-6-7) and girls (grades 3-4-5). Registration will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room of the Municipal Complex. The registration fee is $50.00, which helps defray costs such as official's fees shirts, monitor, etc.

Practice begins in December with one or two practices per week. Games begin in January with a practice every week or every other week. Girls in grades 3, 4 & 5 will play on Tuesday nights. Boys in grades 3 & 4 will play on Friday nights, and boys in grades 5, 6 & 7 will play on Monday and Thursday nights. South Park Township Annual Community Day

South Park Township's annual Community Day will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the South Park Fairgrounds. Festivities will start at noon with the parade along Corrigan Drive to Brownsville Road and into the Fairgrounds. The theme this year is "Fall Spooktacular." The celebration will include demonstrations, crafts and informational booths in the fairground buildings and surrounding areas. Local businesses and school groups will also be there with a variety of food and games to please everyone. There are plenty of activities for the kids and lots of entertainment and interesting booths through the fairgrounds. Soccer teams will be playing games all day. The District Band as well as River Trail Band will be on the outside stage. For more information, please contact Recreation Director, Colleen Dominick at 412-831-7000.

Summer Activities

South Park Township will hold the annual Summer Recreation Program starting June 2018. Programs, activities, and fees include: a $60.00 fee and an extra $3.00 charge at Tennis and Golf. Registration for these programs will take place in April 2018 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM in the Board Room located in the Administration Building.

Activity groups will be formed according to the grade the youth will be entering this coming school year. Registrants may choose as many activities as they wish for the individual fee providing they meet the grade requirements. NO REFUNDS.

Special Events for all Residents

There are several popular annual events that all residents can enjoy including Easter Egg Hunt & Brunch, Community Day, Children’s Halloween Party, Children’s Christmas Party, and the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.

A Note About Fees

Fees, when charged, sustain direct program costs. In many instances, volunteers provide assistance and leadership. Anyone interested in volunteering their services should contact Colleen Dominick - Recreation Director at (412) 831-7000.
